The Subtle Power of Flowers: My Journey Through Pain, Healing, and Self-Honesty

I started using flower essence formulas in 2021 after the end of a relationship that broke me, woke me, and catapulted me into healing my inner child. I wasn’t looking for help with flowers - I didn’t even know it was a thing. My favorite Akashic Records reader, Lorena Espiga, studied flower essence remedies, and when she suggested it, I didn’t hesitate. I already believed the earth provides everything we need to heal, so it made sense that this tool could help. I also trusted that if something presented itself to me, it was in alignment with what I had asked my soul, guides, and angels for.

It began with a typical Akashic Records reading. I told her what I was going through: the despair, the pain, the dissonance between logically being done with the dynamic and the lingering emotional residue that was hard to reconcile. After she went into the records and reflected the lessons of the relationship with me, as well as the past lives that played into the dynamic, she created a custom blend of flowers to help me move through the emotions I was feeling with greater ease.

I didn’t know how it would work. I just trusted it. As a former psych major, I knew the power of the placebo effect. As someone more spiritually aligned, I knew my beliefs shaped my reality. If I chose to believe it would help, it would help. It was that simple.

I ordered the remedy and received it a few days later: a small dark dropper bottle with the names of the flowers in the remedy. I didn’t do any research. I simply began taking four drops a day under my tongue.

Here was the formula:

  • Pine

  • Sweet Chestnut

  • Lavender

  • Nicotiana

  • Sticky Monkeyflower

  • Borage

  • Black Cohosh

Over the next few weeks, my inner child healing began. I read and listened to a book and worked through the accompanying workbook. It felt… easy. Natural. I was celibate and fully focused on myself and my work. Four months later, high on my own energy, listening to As I Am by H.E.R, heading to the mountains to snowboard, I had a whim: I should drive to Colorado. Alignment intact, pain integrated with a new level of self-honesty, my life moved forward.

That was five years ago. Since then, I’ve had three more custom blends made by Lorena, and here’s what I want to say about how they work: it’s subtle. If you ever took antidepressants, you may have experienced feeling everything to the point of debilitation, or feeling absolutely nothing. Flower essences don’t feel like that. Depending on your blend, they make you feel more at ease with feeling itself. They don’t remove emotion; they settle it in your system. They make things easier to process without you even noticing. I was able to feel things I wasn’t allowing myself to feel without it overtaking me or my ego screaming, “NOPE. We are not doing that. Not going there.” I didn’t need to run or distract myself from feeling. Emotions came, I acknowledged them, reflected on them, and finally released them. Mostly. Healing isn’t linear. Each connection, experience, and loss plays into a larger unfolding of growth. Just… trust the process and don’t beat yourself up. Or do. It’s your life.

Recently, I noticed major setbacks in my life. I noticed myself not functioning the way I usually function. I’d lost my aunt, my sister, and my businesses. My home, my mobility, my desire to do the things I love - being outside, snowboarding, rock climbing. I couldn’t even see my kids because my financial situation didn’t allow it. Something (my soul)  told me to revisit flower essence remedies. So I started studying. I came up with my own formula based on what I could identify I was feeling, and the emotions healers I had connected with told me I was suppressing (I’m really good at suppressing emotions. My ego has a PhD in mental gymnastics and is excellent at hiding truths from me). I created a blend specifically to help me get through my stasis.

Here is what I now know my original blend was tackling and why it was so helpful:

  • Pine - Self-blame, guilt, over-responsibility, taking on what isn’t mine.

  • Sweet Chestnut - Extreme despair, hitting emotional limits, feeling “there is no light left.”

  • Lavender - Anxiety relief, nervous tension, soothing overstimulation, calming the system.

  • Nicotiana - Letting go of longing, release from obsession or addictive emotional patterns.

  • Sticky Monkeyflower - Holding onto toxic attachments or codependent energy; difficulty letting go.

  • Borage - Courage, emotional bravery, facing life even when shaken.

  • Black Cohosh - Letting go of deep fear, connecting to inner surrender, releasing stuck trauma.

Flower remedies are now something I intend to use not only for processing specific life events but also to help balance my natural incarnated personality traits. For example, I am inherently impatient. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Human Design: As a Manifesting Generator with Solar Plexus Authority and a 5/1 profile, I’m wired to act fast and pivot constantly, but my emotions require patience that I naturally resist.

  • Natal Chart: My Sagittarius Sun pushes me to explore and expand immediately, my Leo Moon craves instant emotional feedback, and my Taurus Rising clashes with my fast-moving impulses, creating inner tension.

  • Numerology: My 22/4 Life Path envisions big, long-term results, but I get frustrated waiting, while my 23/5 Expression and 39/3 Personality crave freedom, variety, and instant creative fulfillment.

  • Energetic Pattern: Altogether, my blueprint blends rapid manifestation drive, emotional intensity, and restless curiosity, making impatience a natural shadow of my expansive, action-oriented soul. There’s a flower for that: Impatiens - the remedy for impatience and the frustration and irritability that often come with it.

If you feel called to explore flower essence remedies, I encourage you to trust your intuition and allow the process to unfold naturally. These remedies can support emotional processing, balance personality traits, and bring subtle yet profound shifts. If you struggle to be honest with yourself about what you’re feeling, working with a skilled healer can help you identify suppressed emotions and create a more comprehensive, aligned blend. Whether used independently or alongside guidance, flower essences are a gentle yet powerful tool for navigating life’s challenges and supporting your growth.

Sending you love.
